International Women in Science Conference

Lesley Yellowlees

Good practice in UK university chemistry departments.

The proportion of women studying science subjects is rising. However women are far less likely to stay in research than their male colleagues and chemistry has a worse record than many other science subjects. Work by the Athena Project and the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) over the last six years has examined reasons why women do not stay in UK academic chemistry. Examples of good practice and good working environments in UK universities will be presented in addition to those of the University of Utopia - the perfect Chemistry Department for women (and men) to thrive in!
