International Women in Science Conference
The overriding focus of the three-day conference was to move forward and find concrete ways to improve the prospects of women working in science. Presentations took a constructive look at the current situation - evaluating progress, identifying good practice and showcasing initiatives that are having a positive impact on the working environment of women scientists.
The meeting comprised four sessions: "Successful initiatives in the spotlight", "Committees as gatekeepers", "What can politics do?" and "Changing institutional culture". The first session, "Successful initiatives in the spotlight", presented programmes and initiatives that promote women in Science, Engineering and Technology (SET) via a series of selected talks and a lively bazaar.
